The present SPAIN-blog is dealing with:

THE SPANISH CAR AFTERMARKET STRUCTURE

Last population census has been assessed in 44.708,964 people. Taking into account a car park of more then 20 million units, it averages about 1 passenger car for each 2 people. This rate as compared to other top EU countries, together with the higher economical growth of Spain, allows an expectation of a growth of the sales market, but possibly modulated by the increasing rate of credit interest.

It is estimated about 50.000 car service and repair workshops active in Spain, which profile is plotted at graphs attached.

Resulting from the progress of 1400/2002 Regulation, together with the influence of technological development of the vehicle, Dealers are progressively entering in competition with spare parts distributors by offering competitive support to small independent workshops. On the other hand, re-structuring of the traditional “official services” paved the way to the expansion of original spare parts manufacturer services, such as Bosch or Valeo, as leading brands.
From speciality point of view, the large amount of electro-mechanic workshops, mainly with less then 4 employees, is decreasing in number as a consequence of technological requirements.

Full service workshops mainly linked to Dealers and Services are growing due to opportunities both from car service technology requirements, and higher demands of efficiency in the repair of the increasing collision damages.
